We began the semester with a project focusing on designing an accessory dwelling. The project could not exceed 800sf and needed to consider sustainable strategies. We focused on not only developing the idea and design, but also on the technical aspects of its construction.
For our review, the presentation had to speak for itself. We pinned the layouts up on the wall and left while reviewers came through and observed the work.
This was an interesting project and, as always, I would like to have developed the architecture further. However, this exercise taught me to begin thinking in depth about systems integration and construction issues for smaller scale projects which helped in the later house design project.
